While the Shannara books have always technically been in a post apocalyptic world, it takes Brooks many books to really start digging into that history. It is not until the publication of the Genesis of Shannara trilogy that Brooks describes the events of the Great Wars in detail and confirms that the Shannara series takes place on a post-apocalyptic Earth.
